Joni and Friends Retreats
Well, it's that time of year again!!
Registration for Joni and Friends Family Retreat recently opened, which is something I look forward to every year (although, I am not able to go this year, unfortunately).
They have different themes every year, which is pretty cool. Last year's theme was An Anchor for the Soul, and many of the STMs (short term missionaries) got dressed up with some pretty cool costumes.
You can find out more about retreats here, as well as finding a retreat near you here, if you are interested in learning more.
Family retreats are week-long retreats for people with disabilities and their families, where they can relax, have fun, hear the word of God, and not have to worry about the stress of every day life for a while.
In my opinion, it is the best week of the year. You get to serve others (or be served, if you go as a camper), you get to have tons of fun, make lots of memories, make new friends (or see old friends), you get to strengthen your faith...it is the best place ever!!
At the retreat I go to, there is a sweet shop, a pool, activities for the kids, campers, and families, a talent show, and, of course, worship every day.
I am so glad I found out about Joni and Friends retreats, as I have made amazing memories and friends, I have served others (I was able to go in 2019, 2021, and 2022), and I was able to do something that was way out of my comfort zone (I am a shy and introverted person, so going to retreat is something that took a lot of courage on my part).
If you are hesitant about going, I say go for it! You will NOT regret it!!! If you go as an STM, you will see the impact you have on the families you serve the entire time you are there, and you get to see them experience something that they don't always get to experience the rest of the year. It is absolutely beautiful, and amazing to witness.
